Ilze SkadinaParticipantApart from the “standard” soft skills, like communication, negotiation, problem solving etc., I would definitely add as well the flexibility and adaptability as M&A transactions are dynamic, and unexpected challenges arise all the time. An M&A manager needs to be adaptable, able to adjust strategies and approaches in response to changing circumstances – as well when it means changing their first opinions, quiestioning own initial assumptions etc. Furthermore I would add Cultural sensitivity, especially in cross-border transactions, understanding and respecting cultural differences is crucial. A manager with cultural sensitivity can navigate diverse business environments more effectively.

Kyle FrolingParticipantThe best ability is availability, don’t be the bottle neck of the process and keep things moving. Communication is also key, being able to articulate complex information to diverse stakeholders is essential. Other skills are leadership, empathy and attention to detail.

ParticipantAs an M&A manager, possessing strong soft skills is crucial for effectively managing the complex and multifaceted nature of M&A transactions. E.g.
1. Communication Skills: Effective communication is vital both within the organization and with external stakeholders. M&A managers should be proficient in conveying complex information clearly and succinctly. This skill is necessary for conducting negotiations, giving presentations, and facilitating efficient collaboration among team members.
2. Interpersonal Skills: Building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders, such as executives, employees, clients, and external advisors, is crucial for successful M&A deals. M&A managers should have strong interpersonal skills to foster trust, establish rapport, and navigate potential conflicts during the M&A process.
3. Negotiation Skills: M&A managers are often involved in negotiating deal terms, financial arrangements, and other critical aspects of transactions. Possessing exceptional negotiation skills enables them to advocate for their organization’s interests, find common ground, and strike mutually beneficial agreements.December 31, 2023 at 6:08 am #93915

Pedro GaribiParticipantI think that anaytical skills to have numbers, deal strcuture and financials under control are very important. ALso interpersonal and negotiation skills. At hte end of the day you have to negotiate with advisors, top management from Buyer nad Target, regulators, etc…. FInally leadership skills, at the end you work with a team of people from different departments and companies througout the deal and you have to make sure the temas works fine under pressure.

Lana IlchenkoParticipantExcellent project management skills. An ability to listen to experts’ opinion, no matter how much they may know about a particular area in question. Excellent communication skills and an ability to build relationships (as well as dealing with conflict resolution sometimes).

Gabriel CaserParticipantI believe an M&A manager must have a solid understanding of the target business and the various elements reflected in the Share Purchase Agreement. However, given the complexity and breadth of topics involved, it’s challenging to have deep expertise in every area. That’s why I consider strong communication and interpersonal skills to be the most essential soft skills. These enable the manager to effectively engage with different stakeholders, understand both the business and functional perspectives, and ensure alignment throughout the transaction.

Mikael EkbladParticipantI think collaborative skills and mindset are very important when it comes to both building the important relationship with the target as well as within the DD team. An acquisition including PMI is a fairly lengthy process so having a collaborative long-term intent in the first place is important. The two most important collaborative skills are probably listening skills to understand the needs and interests of the other party and to avoid becoming defensive when things are not going according to plan. Not only will the problem solving ability go down when becoming defensive, but it will also put other people in the red zone. Creating a safe environment so that people chose to be open about problems they identify or things they do not understand is also an important collaborative skill.
