M&A Argentina

Since 1985, Argentina has witnessed a number of approximately 4,860 M&A deals, with a combined value of 261 billion USD.

Comparing more recent data, in 2022 there were 106 deals announced, representing a decrease of 22% compared to the 136 deals in 2021. Similarly, the total value of these transactions in 2022 amounted to 3.61 billion USD, marking a decrease of 56% compared to the 8.25 billion USD recorded in 2021.

For the first seven months of 2023, there were approximately 55 announced deals with a total value of 3.15 billion USD, indicating a decrease of 8% in the number of deals and an ascent of approximately 2% in value compared to the same period last year, which saw 60 deals valued at 3.10 billion USD.

The projected* number of M&A deals for the year 2023 is expected to reach 94, with a projected total value of about 5.4 billion USD. This represents a decrease of approximately 11% in the number of deals. Despite the decrease in volume, there will be an increase in value of about 50% over the previous year.

M&A Australia

Since 1989, a total of approximately 53,972 M&A deals have been announced in Australia, reflecting a cumulative value exceeding 3.5 trillion USD.

In 2022, the country witnessed 1,898 deals valued at around 142.6 billion USD, marking a decline of approximately 24% and 54%, respectively, compared to the previous year, which recorded 2,503 deals worth about 308 billion USD.

During the period from January to July 2023, a total of 944 deals were recorded, amounting to a value exceeding 64 billion USD. These figures indicate a decline of 12% in the number of deals and 24% in value compared to the same period last year when there were 1,076 deals valued at 84 billion USD.

By the end of 2023, an estimated* total of approximately 1,618 deals is projected, with a combined value of around 110 billion USD. This represents a 15% decrease in the number of deals and a lower decline of 23% in total value compared to the previous year.

M&A Austria

Since 1985, Austria has witnessed over 9,164 announced M&A deals, amounting to a total value of more than 299.3 billion EUR.

In 2022, a total of 363 deals were announced, valued at around 10.35 billion EUR. This marked a mere 1% decrease in the number of deals and a substantial 53% decrease in value compared to 2021. In 2021, there were 367 deals worth 22.12 billion EUR.

From January to July 2023, approximately 170 transactions were announced, carrying a combined value of about 8.9 billion EUR. This signifies a reduction of approximately 17% in the number of deals. Despite this decline in deal count, the total value surged by roughly 82% compared to the same period in the previous year. During that period in the previous year, 205 M&A deals were recorded, amounting to 4.9 billion EUR.

The projected* number of M&A deals for the entire year of 2023 is anticipated to reach 291, with a projected total value of 15.2 billion EUR. This projection reflects a projected decrease of 20% in the quantity of deals for 2023, coupled with an increase of about 48% in value compared to the preceding year.

M&A Belgium

Over the years, Belgium has experienced a substantial number of M&A deals, with a total of about 12,433 transactions announced since 1985. These deals collectively amounted to roughly 1 trillion euros.

In 2022, 555 M&A deals were announced, reflecting an 8% increase compared to the 515 deals recorded in 2021. However, the total value of these transactions in 2022 was 16.7 billion EUR, marking a notable 28% decrease compared to the 23.2 billion EUR recorded in 2021.

In the first seven months of 2023, 249 M&A deals were announced, totaling approximately 17.8 billion EUR. During the same period the previous year, there were 354 deals worth 16 billion EUR. This indicates a 30% decrease in deal volume. Despite the lower deal count, there was a significant 10.5% increase in the total value of transactions, suggesting a trend towards higher-value deals in the market.

Looking ahead, the projected* number of M&A deals for 2023 is expected to be about 427, with a total value of around 30.5 billion EUR. This reflects a 23% decrease in deal volume compared to 2022 but an impressive 83% increase in total deal value for the same period.

M&A Brazil

Since 1985, Brazil has experienced a substantial number of M&A deals, totaling approximately 15,766 transactions with an overall value of around 1.5 trillion USD.

In the year 2022, there were 689 M&A deals announced, representing a 22% decrease compared to the previous year’s 878 deals. Moreover, the combined value of these transactions in 2022 amounted to 47.4 billion USD, marking a noteworthy 58% decrease from the 112.4 billion USD recorded in 2021.

For the period of Jan-July 2023, there were 292 announced M&A deals in Brazil, totaling approximately 16.4 billion USD. These figures indicate a significant 36% decrease in deal volume and a notable 37% decline in value compared to the previous year’s 450 deals valued at 26 billion USD.

As we look ahead to the rest of 2023, around 501 M&A deals are projected* with a total value of approximately 28 billion USD. This reflects a 27% decrease in deal volume and a substantial 41% decrease in total deal value compared to the previous year.

Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (M&A BRICS)

Since 1995, the BRICS region has witnessed a significant number of M&A transactions, totaling approximately 170,626 announced deals with a combined value of around 10.2 trillion USD.

Analyzing recent years, there was a decrease of about 15% in the number of announced deals in 2022, totaling 6,019 deals, compared to the 7,108 deals in 2021. Additionally, there was a decline of approximately 13% in the total value of these deals, amounting to around 485 billion USD in 2022, compared to about 559 billion USD in 2021.

From January to July 2023, there were around 2,863 announced deals worth 133 billion USD, reflecting a 16% decrease in deal volume and an almost 58% decrease in total value compared to the same period last year, which saw 3,413 deals worth about 315.6 billion USD.

Projections* for the entirety of 2023 indicate a decline in the number of transactions to around 4,908, a decrease of 18% compared to 2022. The same applies to the total value, which is expected to decrease by around 53% to approximately 228 billion USD by the year’s end.

M&A Brunei Darussalam

Since 1993, Brunei has witnessed approximately 82 M&A deals, amounting to a value of 1.4 billion USD.

In 2022, only one M&A deal was announced, totaling 55 million USD. Meanwhile, in 2021, a solitary deal was recorded at 25 million USD. This represents a twofold increase in the total value.

During the first half of 2023, only one deal was announced, and its value was not disclosed. This trend remained consistent with the same period from the previous year.

Based on the available data, it is projected that by the end of 2023, around two deals will be announced, though their respective values are still expected to remain undisclosed. This suggests a continuation of the trend observed in the recent past.

M&A Cambodia

Since 1993, Cambodia has experienced around 297 M&A deals, amassing a total value of 5.6 billion USD.

Examining more recent data, in 2022, there were 9 M&A deals announced, totaling 173 million USD. This signifies a slight decrease when compared to the prior year’s 10 deals in 2021, which held a value of 334 million USD. These statistics represent a decline of 10% and 48%, respectively.

However, the initial seven months of 2023 presented a different scenario, featuring a significant decrease in M&A activity. Cambodia observed a staggering 63% reduction in the number of deals, dropping from 8 in the January-July 2022 period to merely 3 in the same period of 2023. Accompanying this decline was an 89% drop in the total value of these deals, plummeting from 55 million USD to 6 million USD.

Looking ahead, it is estimated* that by the conclusion of 2023, there will be about 5 deals, summing up to approximately 10.2 million USD in total value. These projections indicate a notable decrease of 43% and 94%, respectively, compared to the previous year’s figures.

M&A Canada

From 1985 to the present, Canada has declared a substantial number of M&A deals, totaling approximately 83,264, with a combined value of around 5.5 trillion USD.

In 2022, the country witnessed a total of 3,523 announced deals, estimated to be worth about 282.4 billion USD. In contrast, the preceding year, 2021, had slightly more deals, totaling 4,543, but with a higher overall value of 506.8 billion USD. These figures represent a decrease in the number of deals by about 22%, and a decrease in total value by 44%.

From January to July 2023, there was an 18% decrease in the number of announced deals, while the total value showed a slight 4.6% decrease compared to the previous year. The number of announced deals dropped from 2,135 to 1,744, while the total value dipped from 164.6 billion USD to 157 billion USD.

By the end of 2023, it is estimated* that there will be around 2,990 deals, totaling approximately 269 billion USD. This projection reflects a 15% decrease in the number of announced M&A deals and a 5% decrease in the total value compared to the year before.

M&A Chile

In the period spanning from 1987 to the present, Chile has witnessed a number of M&A deals, totaling around 4,186, with a cumulative value of approximately 301.5 billion USD.

Looking specifically at 2022, the country saw around 150 announced deals, accounting for about 11.5 billion USD in total value. The previous year, 2021, witnessed 161 deals announced, nearly matching the total value of 11.2 billion USD. This represented a slight decrease of 7% in deal volume and a modest increase of 2% in total value.

From January to July 2023, there was a decrease of approximately 22% in the number of announced deals, with around 70 deals compared to the 90 deals in the same period the previous year. The total value of these deals also saw a decline of roughly 63%, amounting to 2.9 billion USD in 2023, in contrast to the 8 billion USD recorded in the previous year.

Current projections* estimate that by the end of 2023, the number of M&A transactions will reach approximately 120, marking a 20% decline from the previous year, with the total value expected to decline significantly by about 56% to approximately 5 billion USD by year-end compared to the previous year’s 11.5 billion USD

M&A China and Hong Kong

Over 7.2 trillion USD worth of transactions have been reported in China since 1991. This corresponds to a significant number of M&A deals that have been announced, totaling 102,912.

In 2022, there were 2,902 announced deals in China, which represents a 23% decline in the volume of deals compared to the previous year’s 3,777 deals. Similarly, the total value experienced a 12.4% decrease, dropping from 291 billion USD in 2021 to 255 billion USD in 2022.

However, the first seven months of 2023 showed a positive trend, with approximately 1,650 announced deals totaling 150.5 billion USD. This indicated an increase of around 9% in the number of deals but a 1% decrease in the total value compared to the same period in the previous year, which saw 1,513 deals with a total value of 152.3 billion USD.

Looking ahead, projections* for the end of 2023 suggest that China is likely to witness about 2,829 deals with a total value of 258 billion USD. These figures indicate a slight drop in the number of deals by 2.5% and an increase of 1.2% in the total value of deals, respectively, compared to the previous year.

Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, South Africa (M&A CIVETS)

CIVETS countries have witnessed a substantial number of around 34,233 deals since 1991, totaling to a cumulative value surpassing 1.5 trillion USD.

However, recent trends indicate a decline in M&A activity in the region. In 2022, there were 1,162 deals announced, valued at about 51 billion USD, showcasing a decrease from the prior year’s 1,477 deals worth 94 billion USD in 2021, signifying a 21% and 46% decrease, respectively.

For the period of Jan-Jul 2023, CIVETS recorded 594 deals amounting to 16 billion USD. This represents a 14% decline in the number of deals from the same period the previous year, when there were 692 deals, and an even greater reduction in value by roughly 55% from 35.8 billion USD.

Looking ahead, by the end of 2023, it is estimated* that there will be around 1,018 deals in the region, with a total value of 28 billion USD. This indicates a decrease in both the number of deals and the total value compared to the prior year, with reductions of 12% and 46%, respectively.

M&A Colombia

Since 1993, Colombia has been involved in a substantial number of M&A deals, with approximately 2,718 transactions accumulating a remarkable total value of 172.6 billion USD.

In the more recent data of 2022, there were 92 M&A deals announced with a combined value of 5.5 billion USD, a slight decrease compared to the previous year’s 101 deals in 2021, valued at 6 billion USD. These figures represent a decline of 9% and 10%, respectively.

During the period from January to July 2023, there was a noticeable 38% decrease in the number of announced deals, with approximately 38 transactions recorded, as opposed to the 61 deals in the same period the previous year. Additionally, the total value of these deals saw a substantial decline of approximately 11%, amounting to 2.9 billion USD in 2023, in contrast to the 3.2 billion USD recorded in the same period of the preceding year.

Looking ahead, it is projected* that by the end of 2023, there will be approximately 65 deals, totaling around 5 billion USD in value. These projections indicate a notable 29% and 9% decrease, respectively, compared to the previous year’s figures.

M&A Czech Republic

Over the years, the Czech Republic has witnessed a substantial number of M&A deals, with about 5,444 transactions announced since 1991, collectively amounting to around 176 billion EUR.

More recently, in 2022, there were 187 deals announced, marking a 32% decrease compared to the 275 deals recorded in 2021. Similarly, the total value of these transactions in 2022 amounted to 2.97 billion EUR, reflecting a 77% decrease from the 13 billion EUR recorded in 2021.

As of July 2023 (Jan-Jul), around 69 deals were announced, worth approximately 1.2 billion EUR. In comparison, the same period in the previous year saw 109 deals valued at 1.6 billion EUR. These figures indicate a decline of 37% in the number of deals and 22% in their respective values.

Looking ahead, the projected* number of M&A deals for the year 2023 is estimated to reach around 118, with a total value of approximately 2 billion EUR. This projection suggests a decrease of about 37% in the number of deals and a 30% decrease in the total value compared to the total M&A value in 2022.

M&A DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland)

In the period spanning from 1991 to the present, the DACH region has witnessed an astounding number of M&A deals, totaling around 89,760 with a cumulative value of approximately 6.3 trillion EUR.

Specifically, in 2022, the region experienced around 3,884 announced deals, amounting to over 207 billion euros. This figure marks a decline of 10% in deal count and a significant 43% decrease in total value compared to the previous year, where 4,299 deals were announced, totaling more than 363.4 billion EUR.

From January to July 2023, there was a noteworthy decrease of approximately 30% in the number of announced deals, with around 1,653 deals compared to the 2,368 deals recorded in the same period last year. Despite the lower deal count, the total value of these deals increased by 26%, reaching 144.3 billion EUR in 2023, up from 114.2 billion EUR in the previous year.

Current projections* estimate that by the end of 2023, the number of M&A transactions in the DACH region will reach approximately 2,834, representing a 27% decline from the previous year. However, the total value of these transactions is expected to increase by 20%, reaching approximately 247 billion EUR by the year’s end.

M&A Finland

Since 1985, Finland has witnessed a substantial amount of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) activity, amounting to 13,966 deals with a value of 454 billion EUR.

However, recent trends exhibit a decline in M&A activity in the country. The number of deals dropped from 607 in 2021 to 578 in 2022, and their combined value significantly plummeted from 26 billion EUR to 8 billion EUR over the same time period, marking a decrease of 69%.

As of the first seven months of 2023, Finland logged 265 deals with a combined value of 9.6 billion EUR. While there was a 27% decrease in the number of deals compared to the same period the previous year (363 deals in 2022), there was a remarkable increase in value of about 100%, surging from around 4.8 billion EUR.

Looking ahead, it is estimated* that by the conclusion of 2023, there will be about 454 deals in Finland, totaling a value of 16.5 billion EUR. Although this indicates a reduction of 21% in the number of deals compared to the prior year, the total value is expected to surge by 102%

Over the years, France has been involved in a significant number of M&A deals, with approximately 64,162 transactions announced since 1991, amounting to a collective value of around 4.3 trillion EUR.

In 2022, there was an increase in M&A activity, with 2,935 deals announced, representing a 7.7% rise compared to the 2,726 deals recorded in 2021. However, the total value of these transactions in 2022 witnessed a significant decline, with the figure reaching 126.8 billion EUR, marking a notable 52% decrease from the 265 billion EUR recorded in 2021.

During the first seven months of 2023, 1,408 M&A deals were announced, totaling approximately 69 billion EUR, indicating a 23% decrease in deal volume compared to the previous year. Similarly, the total value of transactions during the same period decreased by 18%, from 84 billion EUR.

Looking ahead, the projected number of M&A deals for 2023 is expected to be around 2,414, with a total value of approximately 118 billion EUR. These projections reflect an 18% decrease in deal volume and a 7% decline in total value compared to 2022.

M&A Germany

Since 1991, Germany has experienced a remarkable number of 68,488 M&A deals, reaching an impressive combined value of 3.9 trillion EUR.

However, by the end of 2022, there had been a noticeable dip in M&A activity, with only 2,897 deals announced. This represented an 11% decrease compared to the 3,267 deals recorded in 2021. The total value of these transactions in 2022 also saw a substantial decline, amounting to 105.6 billion EUR, marking a 52% decrease from the 221.9 billion EUR recorded in 2021.

The trend continued into the first seven months of 2023, when approximately 1,217 deals were announced with a total value of 56 billion euros. This signified a significant decrease of around 32% in the number of deals. Despite the decrease in deal count, there was an increase of 4% in value compared to the same period in the previous year, which recorded 1,785 deals valued at 54 billion EUR.

Looking ahead, the projected* number of M&A deals for the year 2023 is expected to be around 2,086, with a total value projected to exceed 96 billion EUR. These projections indicate a decrease of approximately 28% in the number of deals and a 9% decrease in total value compared to the previous year.

M&A Hungary

In the period from 1989 to the present, Hungary has seen a significant number of 3,621 announced M&A deals, collectively valued at approximately 97 billion EUR.

In 2022, the market witnessed around 97 announced deals, with a total value exceeding 3.5 billion EUR. However, this figure indicated a decline of 17% in deal count and an 8.5% decrease in total value compared to the previous year, which saw 117 deals announced, amounting to more than 3.8 billion EUR.

From January to July 2023, there was a noteworthy decrease of approximately 40% in the number of announced deals, with around 34 deals reported, compared to the 57 deals recorded during the same period the previous year. Despite the decline in deal count, the total value of transactions increased by 19%, reaching 1.8 billion EUR in 2023, up from 1.5 billion EUR in the previous year.

Current projections* estimate that by the end of 2023, the number of M&A transactions in Hungary will reach approximately 58, representing a 40% decline from the previous year. Similarly, it is expected that the total value of these transactions will decrease by 12%, reaching approximately 3 billion EUR by the year’s end.

M&A India

India has witnessed a significant number of approximately 28,229 announced deals since 1996, amounting to an impressive cumulative value of over 1 trillion USD.

Looking at more recent data, the year 2022 saw a noteworthy increase in M&A activity, with 1,491 deals announced, surpassing the previous year’s count by 7%. Moreover, the total value of these deals also experienced a substantial surge, soaring by 94% from 69 billion USD in 2021 to an impressive 135.3 billion USD in 2022.

However, the momentum shifted during the first seven months of 2023, as 799 deals were announced, reflecting an 11% decline compared to the same period in the previous year when 896 deals were recorded. Additionally, there was a significant 86% decrease in the total value, dropping from 113.9 billion USD to 16 billion USD.

As the year progresses, it is estimated* that by the end of 2023, India will have seen around 1,370 deals with a total value of 27.5 billion USD, indicating a lower deal count and a substantial 80% decrease in total value compared to the previous year.

M&A Indonesia

Since 1990, Indonesia has witnessed substantial involvement in approximately 6,122 announced deals, accumulating an impressive cumulative value of around 263 billion USD.

In 2022, there were 152 M&A deals announced, amounting to a total value of 7.17 billion USD. This represents a 2% increase in the number of deals compared to the previous year, but is accompanied by a 23% decrease in total value, declining from 9.3 billion USD in 2021 to 7.2 billion USD in 2022.

The first seven months of 2023 witnessed 82 announced deals, representing a 5% increase in deal count from the same period the previous year when 78 deals were recorded. Moreover, the total value saw a substantial 107% surge, rising from 2.8 billion USD to 5.8 billion USD.

Looking ahead to the end of 2023, it is estimated* that there will be approximately 141 deals with a total value of 10 billion USD. Although this indicates an 8% decrease in deal count compared to the previous year, the total value is projected to experience a notable 39% increase.

Since 1985, Ireland has functioned as a hub for M&A activity, with reported transactions surpassing 1 trillion EUR, covering a remarkable total of 9,471 deals.

However, in 2022, there was a noticeable dip in M&A activity, with 539 announced deals representing a 13% decline compared to the previous year’s 622 deals. Moreover, the total value of these transactions experienced a significant drop of 33%, plummeting from 112.6 billion EUR in 2021 to 75 billion EUR in 2022.

The first seven months of 2023 have continued to show a downward trend, with 253 announced deals totaling around 10 billion EUR, marking a decrease of approximately 24% in the number of deals and a noteworthy 75% decline in total value compared to the same period in the previous year. During the corresponding period in the previous year, there were 334 deals amounting to 40 billion EUR.

Looking ahead, projections* for the end of 2023 indicate that Ireland is likely to witness around 434 deals, amounting to a total value of 17 billion EUR. These projected figures suggest a further decline of 20% in the number of deals and a substantial 77% decrease in total value compared to the previous year’s data.

Israel’s involvement in the market has witnessed around 6,257 announced M&A deals since 1985, accumulating a total cumulative value of approximately 551 billion USD.

Since 1991, Thailand has seen a considerable number of M&A deals, amounting to approximately 8,014 transactions worth around 270 billion USD.

In 2022, there were 296 announced M&A deals, reflecting a 2% decrease compared to the 303 deals of the previous year. Furthermore, the combined value of these transactions in 2022 amounted to 10 billion USD, marking a noteworthy 62% decrease from the 26.3 billion USD recorded in 2021.

Throughout the initial seven months of 2023, there were 133 announced M&A deals in Thailand, totaling approximately 2.7 billion USD. These figures indicate a significant 22% decrease in deal volume and a notable 64% decline in value compared to the previous year’s 170 deals valued at 7.5 billion USD.

By the end of 2023, about 228 M&A deals are projected* with a total value of around 4.6 billion USD. This projection reflects a 23% decrease in deal volume and a substantial 54% decrease in total deal value compared to the previous year.

M&A Turkey

Over the past decades, Turkey has witnessed a considerable number of M&A deals, totaling around 4,844 transactions since 1989, amounting to approximately 281 billion USD.

In 2022, there were 107 deals announced, marking a 15.7% decrease compared to the 127 deals in 2021. However, despite the lower deal volume, the total value of these transactions in 2022 amounted to 8.76 billion USD, showing a significant increase of 108% compared to the 4.21 billion recorded in 2021.

During the first half of 2023, approximately 58 deals were announced, with a total value of around 1.3 billion USD. In contrast, the same period in the previous year saw 61 deals announced with a combined value of 5.2 billion USD, indicating a significant decline of 75% in total values.

For the entire year of 2023, it is projected* that the number of M&A deals will reach around 99, with a total value of approximately 2.2 billion USD. This projection reflects a decrease of about 7% in the number of deals and a substantial 74% decline in their total value compared to the previous year.

M&A United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Since 1999, the UAE has experienced a remarkable number of approximately 3,960 M&A deals with a combined value of 622.4 billion USD.

In 2022, there were 347 deals announced, marking a 9% increase compared to the 319 deals recorded in 2021. Despite the rise in deals, the total value saw an 11% decline, dropping from 94.3 billion USD in 2021 to 84.2 billion USD in 2022.

During the initial seven months of 2023, there was a noticeable downturn in M&A activity, with approximately 164 deals announced, amounting to a total value of 33.4 billion USD. This indicates a 22% decrease in the number of deals and a substantial 33% decline in value compared to the same period in the previous year, which had seen 209 deals worth 49.7 billion USD.

Looking ahead to the end of 2023, it is anticipated* that the number of M&A deals will reach 281, with an estimated total value of about 57 billion USD. These projections signify a decline of around 19% in the number of deals and a drop of approximately 32% in value compared to the preceding year.

M&A United Kingdom

Since 1985, the UK has experienced a remarkable 136,063 M&A deals, amounting to an impressive combined value of over 8.1 trillion GBP.

However, there has been a noticeable downturn in M&A activity in recent years. By the end of 2022, only 5,866 deals had been announced, indicating a 13% decrease compared to the previous year’s 6,714 deals. Furthermore, the total value of transactions in 2022 experienced a substantial decline, reaching 349.8 billion GBP, marking a 31% decrease from the 505.4 billion GBP recorded in 2021.

The trend continued into the first seven months of 2023, where approximately 2,727 deals were announced, with a total value of 130.7 billion GBP. This signifies a significant decrease of around 25% in the number of deals and a remarkable 45% decline in the total value compared to the same period last year, when 3,618 deals worth 238.5 billion GBP were recorded.

Looking ahead to the end of 2023, the projected number of M&A deals is expected to be around 4,675, with a total value projected to exceed 224 billion GBP. These projections indicate a decrease of approximately 20% in the number of deals and 36% in terms of value compared to the previous year. The outlook suggests that the M&A landscape in the UK might continue to experience a challenging period as the numbers remain below the levels seen in the past.

M&A United States of America

Over the past few decades, the USA has witnessed a significant number of M&A deals, with approximately 439,453 transactions announced since 1985, collectively amounting to a staggering 47.8 trillion USD.

However, in 2022, M&A activity experienced a downturn, with 21,274 deals announced, showing a 15.5% decrease compared to the 25,170 deals recorded in 2021. These transactions amounted to approximately 2 trillion USD, marking a notable 42.5% decrease compared to the 3.5 trillion USD recorded in 2021.

Similarly, during the first seven months of 2023, there were 9,271 announced M&A deals with a total value of about 770 billion USD. This indicates a 30% decline in deal volume and a 41% decline in total deal value, respectively, compared to the same period of the previous year, which recorded 13,170 deals amounting to 1.3 trillion USD.

Looking ahead, the projected number of M&A deals for 2023 is expected to be around 15,893, with a total value exceeding 1.3 trillion USD. This reflects a 26% decrease in deal volume compared to 2022 and a 34% decrease in total deal value for the same period.

M&A Vietnam

Since 1996, Vietnam has witnessed around 6,550 M&A deals with an aggregate value of approximately 58.2 billion USD.

However, in 2022, the M&A market experienced a downturn, with merely 234 deals announced, indicating a 47% decrease compared to the 445 deals of the preceding year. The cumulative value of these transactions in 2022 amounted to 2.6 billion USD, which signifies a significant 38% drop from the 4.2 billion USD recorded in 2021.

Between January and July 2023, Vietnam observed an upswing in deal volume, with 208 announced M&A deals, denoting a 38% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Nonetheless, the total value of these deals only reached around 0.9 billion USD, representing a substantial 52% decline from the preceding year’s 151 deals valued at 1.87 billion USD.

Looking forward to 2023, projections* indicate approximately 357 M&A deals, with an estimated total value of around 1.5 billion USD. Despite the anticipated 52% increase in deal volume, the total deal value is projected to undergo a substantial 41% decrease compared to the previous year.
