Commercial due diligence is evolving FROM basic Microsoft Office tools and limited data TO advanced analytics tools and big data.

As business environments become increasingly complex and data processing capabilities become more advanced, how might insights drive change within M&A?
Will decision-makers use visualizations, social media or automation for better predictions? Or will the noise create more assumptions and uncertainty?

To navigate the ever increasing amount of data available worldwide, it will be more and more important to actually varify the source of the data. And here psychological aspects come into play as well as we humans prefer positive over negative information. This is especially an issue with social media reports by companies themselves – eg. making themselves look better than they acutally are.
There are a number of data sources already available that try to work through the thickness of social media and try to filter the facts. Softwares like this will change the game of M&A as it will not be necessary any more to have local teams, many aspects will get automated and during DD we have to be more aware than ever of inconsistencies.
Summed up, we all better work on a programming degree as well 🙂

Rubbish in, rubbish out. Excellent topic. I do agree that with additional tools, it would help to generate (hopefully better) insights. However, it very much is dependent on the credibility of these info.

I recently took up programming in Python and also learnt how to do visualisations in Tableau. These tools can definitely help, but it feels like there aren’t enough trained users or a sufficient push to mainstream them anytime soon..
