What do you think is the optimal size of the PMI team? The PMI process obviously covers broad scope, but having too many people involved seemed to weaken the intensity of PMI efforts in my experience (but then, I also know from experience that having just the core few would not work). Curious to know what your own experiences are, and advice if any based on your own experience.

    Hello Tack,
Our PMI team size highly depend on the size and type of the aquisition. We normally introduce a bigger team for share deals. The PMI project management normally consists of 2-3 people (one from the target) and we have at least one or two people per workstream.

Typically, we have used consultants, however, we are working towards establishing an integration team that knows the business more then anyone external. We will continue to leverage consultants to do the heavy lifting on M&A but as we target larger accessions we have opted to take integration in house. that team will be ~5 and the consulting teams will range in size depending on the deal and desire for broad or narrow due diligence.

No one size fits all. Depends on the deal size, existing cultures, synergy areas and targets and length of previous experience in similar projects
