In the course integration management, there were a number of different approaches to Integration presented. Personally I like the process model but I have used the sub project model the most. I think which model you choose depends on the complexity of the integration at hand. I am wondering whether anyone has used the Matrix approach in a way of combining both a value stream focus over top of the functional integration work.
We use the matrix approach when we purchase an organization with multiple lines of business that are leveraging enterprise services. This allows us to maintain project focus around specific value stream while also maintaining programmatic focus of enterprise, shared resources.
