When company A acquire major stakes of a cross-border company B, and not for cost benefit, but more so for market expansion, how critical it is to align values, and ways of working as part of cultural integration.

I think aligning values and ways of working is important, especially when the acquisition is focused on growth rather than cost synergies. At the same time, I would not try to create a completely new culture from day one. For me, the key is to understand where differences matter for collaboration and the business, while also keeping the strengths and identity of both companies. Often it also conceivable to bring both cultures together and create a shared one with shared values et.c

Cultural alignment is particularly important in cross-border acquisitions focused on market expansion. However, alignment should not mean imposing the acquirer’s culture. The priority should be agreeing on shared values, governance and strategic objectives while respecting local management practices and market knowledge. Preserving these strengths is essential to achieving sustainable growth and retaining key talent.
