Aside from Chrysler and Time Warner/AOL. Does anyone have any personal experience where cultural norms negatively impacted intergration?

I was with a company that had two separate cultures, and despite efforts to keep what was great about one organizations culture, it was essentially stomped out and washed away. Ultimately many associates assimilated and the incumbent culture remained. Sometimes I wonder if there would ever be a way to integrate both cultures into one and find the best of both worlds. Does anyone have an experience in this area? If so I would love to hear about it.
