I would expect the optimal frequency of M&A activity is very specific to the business concerned and the industry in which they operate. Factors such as the prevailing economic conditions, the growth rate of the industry, the appetite of shareholders for M&A, the balance sheet and financials of the business, its future plans re new product launches, focus on R&D etc. would also dictate the frequency of M&A activity.
