What does it take to move from supporting smaller M&A deals to contributing meaningfully on larger, more complex transactions? Is it mentorship, deal exposure, technical depth, or something else? Curious to hear what helped others make that jump.

For me, the jump from smaller to bigger deals came down to three things:
    – Mentorship — having someone senior who pulled me into the room and explained the “why” behind decisions.
    – Exposure — not just watching, but owning a piece of the workstream so I could prove value.
    – Breadth — realizing large deals aren’t just finance; you need to understand legal, tax, HR, and culture too.
At the end of the day, it’s about showing you can spot risks or opportunities others miss.
For those who’ve made the jump, was it more about being ready or simply being given the chance?
