As Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria continue to gain prominence in the investment landscape, the integration of these factors into due diligence processes has become a critical consideration for businesses and investors alike. This shift reflects not just a commitment to ethical investment but also recognizes the substantial impact that ESG factors can have on financial performance, risk assessment, and company reputation. How Are Companies Adapting Their Due Diligence Processes to Incorporate ESG Criteria Effectively?

From my expertise this topic is highly important if the potential target is located in a western country, as in some countries as China or others these ESG criteria are not still as relevant as in Europe, for example. Therefore the DD is adapted to those potential buyers or targets, and not included a big chapter related to ESG. The opposite if the buyer or target is from a western country, where this ESG chapter should be treated as one of the most importants.
