Anyone in the accounting space knows that M&A activity in the sector is explosive! With the shortage of accountants and the high number of accounting firm owners retiring in the next few years, even in a struggling US economy, there’s never been a better time to start your own company in the recession-proof accounting sector. There are TONS of practices for sale, so rather than start from scratch in hopes of acquiring clients organically, consider purchasing 1-3 small practices with room to increase pricing and value through outsourcing and streamlined operations.

    Thoughts?

Very interesting. Reminds me of what WPP did for the last 10-20 years in the ad agency business. They acquired many small to medium agency businesses which were primarily people driven to grow to a multi-billion dollar business. This is not the most excited business, but the industry dynamics could make a low margin service business more appealing.
