Cultural mismatch is often sighted as THE main reason for M&A failure, and yet, there is neither a common definition of corporate culture nor a market-standard approach to assessing cultural fit. It’s a topic I’m genuinely fascinated by, and after watching the video from section 4, ordered Edgard Schein’s Organizational Culture and Leadership book. I would love to know from you all, do have any recommended books or other resources that you’ve found helpful on the topic?

Hi John. I recently read “Re-Culturing” by Melissa Daimler and “Walking the Talk” by Carolyn Taylor. Also, check them out on YouTube for TED Talks. Highly Recommend!

I agree this is a hugely important determinant of success or failure of M&A transactions. While this title would not specifically address your topic, I believe that Steven Covey’s “Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” is an extremely valuable perspective on the practical aspects of how effective leadership always wins out over immature and silo-oriented styles of leadership in modern corporate culture settings.

“The Culture Code: The Secrets of Highly Successful Groups” is a good one, but it’s not really written about corporate level M&A, more so on a smaller scale, but the principles can still be applied to any merger.
