Hi All – looking for recommendations for software or services that can be used to see a summary of latest M&A activity and forecasts for the future – in other words a tool that helps me “sense” the market. Any statistics around which industries are hot, typical deal sizes, etc., will be helpful. Thank you!

For tracking M&A activity and sensing market momentum, a combination of software tools and analyst reports tends to work best. Here are some trusted sources:

PitchBook and CB Insights – Excellent for real-time deal tracking, sector heat maps, and private company M&A data. PitchBook in particular offers great filters by deal size, industry, and geography.

Mergermarket – A go-to for forward-looking intelligence, rumored deals, and detailed transaction analysis. It’s widely used by advisors and strategics.

Refinitiv (formerly Thomson Reuters) – Offers detailed M&A league tables and macro-level insights across global and regional markets. It’s strong on historical trends and financial modeling.

McKinsey & Company – While not a live tool, McKinsey regularly publishes top-tier insights and quarterly M&A updates. Their “M&A in 2024: Reset, Reshape, Rebound” and annual global M&A reports are especially helpful for forecasting deal drivers, sectoral trends, and integration priorities.

S&P Capital IQ – Comprehensive data on public transactions and comparables. It’s particularly useful for benchmarking deal multiples and valuation ranges.

If you’re looking for more real-time and visual dashboards, Dealogic and Preqin (especially for PE-driven activity) can also add value.

Combining one of these platforms with periodic strategic insights from firms like McKinsey, Bain, or BCG creates a well-rounded picture of what’s happening—and what’s coming next—in the M&A landscape.
