Involving consultants/advisors is (as mentioned here already) very dependent on the size and complexity of a deal, are more jurisdictions involved, does the language is a barrier. However, i am a big fan and also from my experience having a mix of internal resources and (some) advisors involved.
Very technical topics within a DD which you can’t cover internally and might bear a huge risk (e.g. tax implications) i would always go with external help.
