I do believe that the former owner should remain at the company for a sufficient time to complete a successful integration and slowly proceed to removing them. However if the former owner or family members are fully engaged and capable managers then their experience and market knowledge could be used either in different or same positions and particularly in the field or market they were experts at or as Advisory roles.
